Since launching in 2010, we have been able to get our basic organizational infrastructure in place, and host one fundraiser event.
We previously had experience setting up normal businesses, but we now have a new healthy respect for the process of establishing an official 501(c)3 nonprofit company. It was an important part of our strategy to have our own independent organization with tax exempt status, and we count this as a significant first year accomplishment.
Our first event was the SIDS Awareness 5k. Held on the one year anniversary of baby Will’s death, our first event attracted nearly 500 people and our community raised over $17,000, all of which was donated to support SIDS.
